Wii Standby mode - How to turn it to Red instead of Orange

After messing around a bit with my new wii I realised that when switching it off (to standby mode) the green light turned into orange instead of turning into red. After a little bit, the blue light around the CD "door" would switch on. That was a nice effect but I found out that it consumes more energy than going into the Red standby mode.

The Orange mode consumes around 10watt and the Red only 1watt.

The question is, why is it turning into orange and what can I do to turn it into Red? Most of you might know the answer but here it is for the ones that like me didn't know it.

It is turning into Orange because you have an internet connection set up and even in standby the wii will update stuff like news and weather. You can stop this by disabling the WiiConnect24.

How to do that:

  1. open the Wii Options menu
  2. choose Wii Settings
  3. on page two select the WiiConnect24 button
  4. choose Standby Connection
  5. click on Off and hit Confirm

Hope this helps.

Keep saving energy

How to remove the blue line from the link images

If you are creating your website and are using images as links you might find an annoying blue line around the image. This line is there to let the users know that the image is a link. Personally I don’t like that line and so here is a solution to make it disappear when creating a website.

You can either use this in the HTML or the CSS code.

style=”border:none”

In HTML it will look something like this:

<a href=”/url/path”><img src=”/image/path” style=”border:none”></a>

Basically you just need to add the *style=”border:none”* to the code of your created link image.

Function Key Always On

In Technology strange things happen. One of the most recent happening to me was buying a netbook and having part of the keyboard writing numbers instead of the alphabet. I then realised that the keys displaying numbers were the ones that are supposed to do so when pressing the Fn (Function) key at the same time.

So what can I do?

Apparently there is a simple solution and it worked fine. Pressing Fn and Num Lock (that in my keyboard is F11). So, if I press Fn+F11 the alphabet is back in place. Using this combination is like pressing Caps Lock to have the CAPITAL LETTERS always on. If you do it again they will go back to lower case. You might use this option to also activate the Fn for some time so you can use the number pad of your keyboard if it is in the same place as letters.

Hope this is useful.
